Final preview

In the 2010 Medibank International final Richard Gasquet will face Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis, who battled past American Mardy Fish 6-4, 6-7(7), 7-6(5) in two hours and 57 minutes to reach his eighth tour-level final.

It will be the first meeting between the pair. "It's very surprising because we played a lot of years together," said Gasquet. "He's a nice guy and friend of mine. He lived in Paris, so I know him very well."

"We used to play juniors together," recalled Baghdatis. "He's a great player and he has a lot of talent. He looks like he worked hard this winter, and he's playing great tennis. I guess I'll enjoy my victory for today, and start thinking about the match for tomorrow."

Baghdatis is looking to win his second ATP World Tour title in his past three tournaments, having closed 2009 with victory at the If Stockholm Open (d. O. Rochus). The 24 year old, who reached the Australian Open final (l. to Federer) in 2006, has a 3-4 mark in tour-level finals.
